Train the Trainer

The purpose of the class is to provide the participant with effective teaching skills and strategies to train other health care professionals about breastfeeding. Activities will include curriculum development, teaching material development as well as demonstration of a lesson and role playing. The participants will learn the skills and strategies needed to train other health professionals to counsel patients/clients on breastfeeding issues. This course is designed to train local breastfeeding experts in the requirements for training additional staff. Subjects covered include, but are not limited to the following:

• Updates on current recommendations for consistent patient education and assistance
• Development of training manual and teaching materials
• Recognition and implications of principles of adult learning
• Working with diverse cultures and age groups
• Assistance with continuing education requirements
• Teaching strategies and methods
• Overview of lactation management
• Overview of Lactation training programs and requirements
